Storm round-up: woman escapes serious injury despite being hit by falling roofing

A Menzieshill woman has told of her amazing escape after she was struck by a roll of flying roof during Monday’s storm.
Jane Gillie (43), from Earn Crescent, suffered whiplash and bruising when she was flattened by roofing from the nearby Bay View Bar.
She was walking past the newly-refurbished bar on her way home from her job as a cook at Menzieshill House at around 5.20pm when she was caught full in the back by the roofing and left pinned to the ground.
“I don’t remember what happened,” she said. “I didn’t even know that it was the roof of the bar that hit me until afterwards.
“I was just on the way back to my house and that was it. I must have been knocked out. Then I can just remember shouting for someone. I thought I was dead.
“I’m just lucky that there was a doctor and nurse who had just come off shift from the hospital passing at the time. The next thing I knew I was in an ambulance.
“I’m surprised I’m still here this morning. I’ve just been so lucky if it had caught me in the face or on the neck then I wouldn’t be here.”
Jane was taken to Ninewells Hospital and was released on Tuesday.
