St Johnstone full-back Danny Grainger has signed for SPL rivals Hearts.
Grainger was the third player snapped up by Jambos boss Jim Jefferies in a hectic afternoon of business which also saw him secure striker John Sutton from Motherwell and midfielder Jamie Hamill from Kilmarnock.
Grainger told Saints boss Derek McInnes last season that he would not be renewing his contract this summer as with his wife pregnant, he wanted to return to his Cumbrian roots to be nearer to his family.
A possible move to Carlisle was mooted but, with no interest emerging from down south, Grainger has moved to Tynecastle.
The 24-year-old, who bid a fond farewell to the Saints fans during the last game of the season at St Mirren, is sure to receive a warm welcome when he returns to McDiarmid Park next season wearing the maroon jersey of the Jam Tarts.
However, before he had agreed to sign for Hearts, he had earlier told Courier Sport that there was one Saints player he would be keeping well clear of if he ever went back with another club.
“I am certain I will be given a good reception whenever I return,” he said. “I made a lot of friends at the club and we will remain so.
“It would be good to go back to McDiarmid some day but I will be making sure I avoid any 50/50 tackles with Murray Davidson!”
