Perth/Dundee rail travel disrupted after lorry hits Tay Street bridge

Train services between Dundee and Perth were disrupted and traffic rerouted on Wednesday after a lorry collided with a rail bridge in Perth.
The lorry hit the Tay Street bridge as it passed under it. It is understood that officers later traced the driver in Dundee.
Network Rail engineers inspected the bridge twice, with services between Perth and Dundee stopped for around 30 minutes until initial inquiries found the bridge was safe.
Police said they received a call about the incident at 10.25am and confirmed that Tay Street was shut again while a second team of Network Rail inspectors had a more detailed look at the bridge although they insisted it was safe.
A spokesman for Network Rail said, “Engineers conducted a visual inspection of the structure and found there was only superficial damage. In terms of impact on services, that should be quite minimal.”
