This year’s Best Bar None Awards scheme, which celebrates good practice by Perth’s town centre pubs, had its official launch this week.
Now in their sixth year, the awards focus on public safety and customer care in licensed premises.
They offer each applicant an opportunity to demonstrate that their premises consider important issues, such as the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance and protection of children from harm, as part of their operation.
In 2010, 19 premises gained awards including 11 gold award winners, and pubs and bars will be striving to improve their award status again this year.
Launching the 2011 awards at the Twa Tams in Scott Street, community safety partnership convener Councillor Willie Robertson said, “The Best Bar None Scheme is a very useful way of rewarding, recognising and promoting good practice in local licensed premises, as was shown by the 19 premises who won last year.
“The safety of people who come into the city centre to enjoy themselves is of paramount importance. I look forward to another successful year for the scheme.”
Twa Tams licensee Zoe Cooper added, “The Twa Tams is delighted to host the launch of this excellent scheme this year. Best Bar None is going from strength to strength within the licensed trade.
“Being a Gold Award winner last year means we are recognised for the high standard of care and safety of our customers.”
The awards are sponsored nationally by Diageo, with local funding provided by Perth and Kinross Community Safety Partnership and the Perth Common Good Fund.
