Scottish football is being urged to move its focus away from a proposed 10-team league to a 14-strong division following a meeting of eight SPL sides.
Newly-promoted Dunfermline got together with officials from Hearts, Dundee United, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Inverness Caley Thistle, St Johnstone and St Mirren in Edinburgh.
Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen and Hibs were not represented at the gathering.
On the agenda was a proposal to request that those running the game explore the viability of a 14-team top flight with a workable second tier below.
While a return to a 10-team division is considered by many to be dead in the water, there is a desire among those who met on Tuesday to retain some of the original proposals championed by the steering group, such as play-offs.
The latest development in the long-running reconstruction saga comes just before Friday’s scheduled meeting between SPL and SFA officials to discuss the way forward for the game in Scotland.
