Dundee College will be represented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August when a group of six student dancers, collectively known as Symposium Productions, perform in the heart of the capital.
Melanie Forbes-Broomes (22), Lucy Wilson (22), Dagmara Jerzak (26), Sarah Ryan (23), Jessica Todd (20) and Lucy Haighton (20) have just returned from the Brighton Fringe Festival where they performed The Problem With The Other, a piece which Melanie choreographed.
The HND contemporary dance students’ sights are now set on Edinburgh where they are doing a six-night run in Venue 9, in Niddry Street, just off the Royal Mile.
The Problem With The Other is developed from a piece Melanie created during her course and is based on the Jean-Paul Sartre play, No Exit.
“We all read the play and really enjoyed it,” said Melanie. “When I asked the dancers if they wanted to take part in this venture they jumped at the idea.”
Through a range of fund-raising activities including a sponsored run, a sponsored silence, raffles and organising a variety of club nights and parties, the dancers managed to meet the £1500 cost of the productions in Brighton and Edinburgh.
