Monifieth raises a flag to celebrate beach winning Rural Seaside Award

Monifieth has raised the flag to mark its first Rural Seaside Award.
The ceremony was the culmination of months of dedication by local groups, after Angus Council officially lodged an application for the status under Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Seaside Award Programme.
There were originally fears that a lack of financial resources would mean the local authority was unable to carry out sufficient clean-ups to gain the honour.
But there was joy when it was announced earlier this year that the former Blue Flag beach would become the fifth location in Angus to gain the accolade.
The award was retained by the beaches at Carnoustie, Arbroath’s West Links, Lunan Bay and Montrose.
Monifieth’s flag was unfurled by local councillor John Whyte, who praised everyone involved.
He said, “I would like to thank local groups and individuals, including Monifieth Eco Fest, Monifieth Community Council and Monifieth Local Partnership, for their help, particularly with beach clean-ups and beach counts.”
