Third Division, Pollok v Montrose. John Baird, of Montrose, passes forward.

Raith Rovers unveil former Airdrie United striker John Baird as the latest addition to their squad today.

Baird signed a pre-contract agreement with the Kirkcaldy club earlier this season and manager John McGlynn has spoken of his delight at landing his man on a two-year deal.

The Stark’s Park gaffer has been looking to bolster his attacking options and he is certain proven goalscorer Baird, who has also played for St Mirren and Montrose, fits the bill perfectly.

“I am pleased we have signed John and I believe he will be a good addition to the squad,” he said.

“He scored 11 goals for Airdrie last season and if he can contribute the same again for us next term I will be more than pleased.

“I have been looking to add to the striking department for some time and John has impressed me when he has played against us and when I have had him watched. I think he will fit in very well.”

As well as Baird, McGlynn has already added goalkeeper Andy McNeil and defender Willie Dyer to his roster for next season and he revealed he has one more signing in the pipeline.

“I am looking to conduct one more piece of business but that will probably happen nearer the start of pre-season training in June,” he said.

Like most managers, a large part of McGlynn’s working day is spent sifting through job applications from players’ representatives but, as ever, financial constraints are the over-riding factor.

“I am inundated with literally hundreds of CVs and emails from agents,” he added.

“It is not just about Scottish players — there are a lot of young English ones being let go but nobody has any money to sign them.”
