Wayward drive golf cart ends up in Barry Burn at Ricoh Women’s British Open

Carnoustie’s famous Barry Burn claimed another victim on the opening day of the Ricoh Women’s British Open when a golf cart ended up in the water hazard.
Mystery surrounds how the golf cart came to rest in the Barry Burn on the 17th hole. Players were spotted taking a look at the buggy as they made their way through the 17th.
The cart’s appearance in the burn brought back memories of the 1999 men’s Open and Frenchman Jean van de Velde’s memorable dip.
The popular Frenchman was moments from making history and needed to shoot no worse than a double-bogey six on 18 to take the title. His third shot went into the water, but rather than take a penalty drop, he took off his socks and shoes and actually considered playing the ball.
However, he decided to take a drop, eventually getting a triple-bogey seven that got him into a play-off, that he then lost to Scotland’s Paul Lawrie.
