David Goodwillie’s move to Blackburn Rovers is still expected to go ahead despite the player suffering a day of frustration down in England.
The Dundee United striker has agreed personal terms with Rovers and the Tangerines have accepted a £2.8 million bid for their prize asset.
Goodwillie travelled to Lancashire on Monday in the expectation of undergoing a medical at Ewood Park before putting pen to paper on a four-year contract.
He was also meant to meet Rovers boss Steve Kean but an 11th-hour change of travel plans by Kean scuppered that plan.
Rather than arrive back in Britain with the rest of the Blackburn party on Monday morning following their pre-season trip to Hong Kong, Kean diverted to India, where club owners Venkys are based, to do a publicity shoot ahead of the new Premiership season.
That left Goodwillie kicking his heels in his hotel and the player has since journeyed back to Scotland.
He is due, however, to return south when Kean arrives back in order to seal the deal.
United remain confident the agreement with Blackburn will be honoured once manager and player meet face to face.
Tannadice chairman Stephen Thompson said, “The deal has been agreed between ourselves and Blackburn. We are hopeful it will go through in a few days’ time.”
Still retaining hope of snatching Goodwillie in a dramatic swoop are Rangers, who tabled yet another new offer for him at lunchtime on Monday.
While this latest figure crept over the £2 million threshold with further add-ons to come, it was still not acceptable to United.
It is understood the Light Blues want to schedule payments over a period of three years rather than pay up front for Goodwillie but such a structure is not one that will tempt Thompson.
