The son of a former Dundee man who went missing from his home in Kirkmichael, Ayrshire, a week ago has appealed to Dundee FC fans to keep an eye out for his father.

David Lyon (30) has flown back from his new home in Australia desperately hoping his father Richard (59) will turn up safe and well.

Mr Lyon senior, a keen Munro-bagger, vanished last Tuesday and was last seen heading towards Clackmannanshire in his car, a silver Honda CVR.

The keys of the car were sent home by post although the envelope was not franked in the mail, Mr Lyon junior said.

The keen Dundee FC fan, who has never lived in Dundee but got his love of the club from his father, said the situation is “heartbreaking” and he is thinking of putting up posters appealing for information at the Dees’ match at Falkirk on Tuesday.

The Dark Blues play Ayr United at Dens Park on Saturday and Mr Lyon is hoping Dundee fans can help if they have seen him.

A Facebook campaign has also been launched.Lifelong Dees fanMr Lyon said, “I only got back two hours ago we’re very anxious to find him and I’m hoping people in Dundee can help.

“My dad did say he was feeling low and we want to reassure dad that we will be looking after him when we see him again. He means so much to our family.”

He added, “His name is Richard George Lyon and he was originally from Douglas, he used to go to the Fisherman’s pub in Broughty Ferry.

“I think he left Dundee in the late 1970s but he’s always followed Dundee FC and I’m thinking of putting up posters at the match.

“Obviously this has come as a huge shock to the whole family and close friends as it is totally out of character for my dad not to let us know where he is.”

Mr Lyon and his wife Debbie had only recently married and emigrated to Australia and he has dropped everything to return home.

Mr Lyon said the hillwalking community is looking out for his father and appealed for people in busier areas, including Dundee, to keep their eyes peeled for him and his car, with the registration RJ55 EBP.

He said, “My dad knows the hills and land very well, so he could be in a remote area or down a trail.”
