Global interest building for Gleneagles Hotel Sporting Gun Auction

Organisers hope the 44th Sporting Gun Auction at Gleneagles Hotel will go off with a bang later this month.

Buyers from across the globe will flock to the famous event on August 22.

With less than a fortnight until the sale, a number of pieces have started to attract a great deal of attention.

A historically important prototype 12-bore over and under single trigger ejector gun by London gunmakers Boss & Co. is among the highlights.

Also of note is a pair of 20-bore Royal model sidelock ejector guns by Holland and Holland, which are valued at between £30,000 and £40,000.

Gavin Gardiner, who organises the auction in association with Sotheby’s, said, “It is a sporting highlight for shooting enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world and more world record prices have been achieved here than at any other venue.

“World renowned for its grouse moors, Perthshire is the perfect location.”

He said the Boss & Co. weapon was in demand because the design has been copied by nearly every gunmaker over the past 100 years.
