Improvements at an Angus accident black spot have slashed the number of accidents.
Greenlaw Bends on the Arbroath to Brechin road has seen the greatest drop in accidents compared to other rural black spots across the county.
During the three years from 2006, there were 12 personal injury accidents at the Greenlaw Bends, the highest number on Angus’ rural roads. The road was realigned in 2009 and since then there has been just one personal injury accident.
Councillor Alex King welcomed the news and the difference road safety improvements had made at Greenlaw Bends. But he said people still had to make sure they slowed down ahead of the bends.
“Too many people are still coming round on the wrong side of the road, but now they are not going through the fence,” he said.
During the year to April, road safety improvement works consisting mainly of improved signs, road markings and surface treatments were carried out at 23 accident cluster sites in Angus.
These sites are defined as places where there have been three injury accidents in a three-year period.
Infrastructure services committee convener David May said: “This continued improvement in accident figures is very welcome. The most recent figures show that 21 of the 40 previously identified cluster sites now have less than three recorded personal injury accidents and the accidents at the majority of the other 19 sites happened within the past three years but before the improvement work was done.”
