Dundee manager Barry Smith has ordered his players to cut out the mistakes when Morton visit Dens.
The Dark Blues host the Greenock club on Saturday and it has not gone unnoticed that goals have been easy to come by for Ton this season.
With Morton having found the net 22 times in seven competitive fixtures Smith has told his team it’s time to eradicate their errors.
If not, he fears they will be made to pay just as they were in the league defeat at Livingston last Saturday before putting in a more encouraging display in the Scottish Communities League Cup at Aberdeen in midweek.
“We need to cut out those mistakes because we got punished for them against Livingston,” said Smith. “We did well up at Pittodrie to limit them and need to do the same again against Morton.
“Often the focus is on the back four but mistakes were made elsewhere before the goals at Livi. So we need to defend from the front and minimise the errors in order to give ourselves a chance.”
Smith, while well aware of the opposition’s strike ratio, is confident his men can cope.
“Morton have made a good start to the season so we will need to take our workrate and application from the Aberdeen game into this one,” he added.
“Folk have to remember that teams coming here will make it difficult but we do have players capable of breaking sides down.”
