A drink-driver who drove off after colliding with a lamp-post left a major clue for police.

Pedestrians had to leap out of the way when Kristyna Widz (41), of Dunmore Street, who was more than twice the legal limit, mounted the pavement and drove into the lamp-post at the roundabout of West Market and North Marketgait.

Her front bumper with the registration plate was left at the scene of the incident.

Widz admitted on Monday that on Sunday morning she drove carelessly, mounted a pavement, forcing pedestrians to take evasive action and collided with a lamp-post, causing damage to the lamp-post and to the car.

She further admitted driving with excess alcohol (81 mics) in North Marketgait and Strathmartine Road on the same date.

Depute fiscal Ross Cargill told the court two witnesses were walking near the roundabout when they saw the accused driving slowly and mounting the kerb, before colliding with the lamp-post.

The car drove off but the front bumper of the car had been left at the scene.

The silver Vauxhall Vectra was later spotted by police being driven erratically in Strathmartine Road, he added, and she gave a positive breath test.

Solicitor Theo Finlay said having finished work Widz had gone for a drink with a colleague but following an argument had decided to drive the car, despite being more than twice the limit.

Sheriff Way told Widz, “This was a very high reading and clearly your driving was so impaired you had a potentially very dangerous accident.”

He fined Widz £500 and banned her from driving for two years.
