Supermarket home deliveries may be nothing new, but an 87-year-old woman has praised staff at one store for taking the concept a step further.
Henrietta Robb had just completed her weekly shop at Asda, Milton of Craigie, but her bankcard was declined when she tried to pay for groceries.
Although she had enough money in her purse to settle the bill, she had nothing left for her taxi fare home.
However, store worker Lori Malone (23) drove Mrs Robb, who is partially sighted, to her home in Whitfield and put her shopping away.
Lori said, “She’s been in in the past few weeks and I have helped her around the store.
“When I saw her having trouble with her card I took her to a cash machine so she could get a statement, and then explained to her that she could pay with the money in her purse and I would give her a lift home.”
She added, “When I got her there I put away her shopping and put her phone next to her so she could call her bank.
“Mrs Robb was quite upset by everything so I called social services too so somebody could check in on her.”
Mrs Robb said on Thursday, “The girl at Asda couldn’t have been any better with me.
“I always say that if you’re civil to people they will be civil back.”
She added, “I don’t know what happened with my card and I couldn’t read the statement because I’m partially sighted.
“But Lori took me home and she phoned my carer as well she really could not have been any nicer and I want to thank her.”
