Friends and family of two Tayside newlyweds didn’t have to dig too deep to come up with a surprise for the couple’s big day.
Raymond Muir (34) and Philippa Hastie (30) emerged after the ceremony at Muirhead Church on Saturday to be greeted by a guard of honour made up of two JCB diggers.
The appearance of the mechanical monsters was something of the icing on the cake at what was in effect a JCB-themed wedding.
Raymond is a JCB driver with the family firm RBS Muir Plant Hire and his affection for the machines is so great that he persuaded his beautician bride to have a digger in pride of place on top of their wedding cake.
The couple, who are from Dundee, also decided to name the tables at their reception at Forbes of Kingennie after JCB models.
“We’ve been joking that we’re surprised he’s not got the bridesmaids in yellow and black,” said Raymond’s sister Leigh, who was in on the surprise.
News of the couple’s nuptials clearly tickled management at JCB, a global company which employs 7,000 people and operates in 150 countries.
A spokesman said the company was delighted to hear that the couple had chosen a JCB theme for their wedding.
“We wish Raymond and Philippa a long and happy marriage,” he added.
