Tayside and Fife are set for a late taste of summer this week, with temperatures forecast to soar.
After a miserable summer, the sun is to shine on the east of Scotland, with forecasters predicting temperatures in the mid-20s from Wednesday.
The unseasonal heat is expected to continue into the weekend.
It means that Dundee, St Andrews and Perthshire could put locations such as New York, Istanbul and Milan in the shade for the next few days.
A Met Office forecaster said: ”It’s going to be a pleasant week with higher-than-average temperatures. Normally, we would see around 14 to 16C but it will be more like 21 to 22 degrees in Tayside.
”It’s looking good for the remainder of the week, too.”
The unexpected sun could see people firing up barbecues again and could even provide a late boost for tourist hotspots.
It will make a change for golfers at this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns an event that traditionally brings out the worst of the Scottish weather.
”Temperatures will start to rise on Tuesday and continue to do so through the rest of the week,” added the forecaster. ”We are not going to get wall-to-wall sunshine but there will be sunshine between the clouds.”
