A prime Angus sporting estate has gone on the market with a £17 million price tag.
The near-20,000-acre Millden estate in Glen Esk is recognised as having some of the country’s finest grouse shooting as well as salmon and sea trout fishing on the River North Esk.
Its main property, the 10-bedroom Millden Lodge, sits on the banks of the North Esk around seven miles north of Edzell and is at the heart of the estate owned by investment banker Richard Hanson.
Millden is described by its selling agents as having undergone a “complete transformation” at the hands of its wealthy owner, but the estate was at the centre of controversy in 2009 when a tagged golden eagle was found dead on the estate. It had been poisoned with a banned pesticide.
Police carried out an investigation into the discovery of the two-year-old bird, which had been tracked from its birthplace on the Glenfeshie estate, but no charges have ever been brought in relation to the find.
The Millden sale is being conducted by the Cupar office of property consultancy CKD Galbraith.
