Senior pupils from Carnoustie High School are leaving the classroom to mix with celebrities and pro golfers on the fairways.
Over the next three days, 48 S6 pupils will have a dream work experience posting at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, being played on the town’s links course.
Scott Arbuthnott, a physical education teacher at the school, said pupils have a long tradition of helping out at major golf events.
He said: ”Normally the Dunhill is during the school holidays, but the way things have worked out this year they are all getting leave of absence as long as they are very responsible and catch up on their school work.
”It is a great social event for the pupils. They enjoy mixing with the golfers and getting autographs and having their pictures taken with them but it’s also good work experience for them.”
Carnoustie councillor Brian Boyd said the event would give a big boost to the town.
The Dunhill follows on from the Ricoh Women’s Open earlier this year which brought thousands to the town.
Mr Boyd said: ”All these golf competitions bring in great revenues and not just for the few days they are on.
”We get a spin-off when people come back to play the wonderful course and visit local hotels and hostelries.”
