COURIER.DOUGIE NICOLSON,26/07/02, NEWS. He hasnt lost his touch, past master Jimmy McRae, Colin's dad goes for a blast through the forest stage on the preview day today, 26th July 2002, for the Colin McRae Forest Stages GHI Rally, which takes place this weekend. Story by Perth office.

Rally fans were able to get up close and personal to a line-up of high-tech cars worth millions of pounds.

Perth took centre stage as its hosted the Re-group and Parc Ferme area of this year’s penultimate stages of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Fresh from completing several gruelling stages in nearby forests, drivers parked up their vehicles each worth £200,000 and featuring well-known manufacturers such as Peugeot, Skoda and Subaru for public display.

The rally stars, including Scottish favourite Alister McRae and contenders for the title Guy Wilks and Andreas Mikkelsen, stopped to chat with fans and sign autographs.

Following Perth’s Re-group, held under parc ferme conditions, they were then waved off for more flat-out action on the same forest stages, including the classic Craigvinean, Errochty and Drummond Hill tests.

Andrew Coe, chief executive of International Motor Sports which organises the Rally of Scotland, said: “We are absolutely delighted to include what is already a hugely popular feature on the IRC’s overseas events and in one of Scotland’s most vibrant cities.”

Sunday saw the drivers return to Carron Valley before two more new tests in Stirlingshire and the final two stages in Perthshire, along with the ceremonial finish at Scone Palace.
