Calum Elliot has extended his loan deal with Dundee until the end of the month and hopes the Dens Park fans will soon see the best of him.
The former Scotland under-21 international picked up a knee injury just minutes into his Dark Blues debut against Raith Rovers a few weeks ago, and has been fighting his way back to fitness ever since.
He’s raring to go now, however, and is determined to get as many minutes of football as possible in the three matches he’ll be available to Dundee boss Barry Smith.
Elliot said: ”I’m pleased to be staying until the end of December and hopefully I’ll get some more games.
”The team’s been doing well, which has made it difficult to get a start, but I’m hopeful that I can force my way in. Hopefully the best is still to come from me at Dundee.
”The injury problems are behind me. I got 20 minutes on Saturday and the knee feels fine. It’s just a case of building up my match sharpness now.”
As he acknowledged, getting into the line-up will be easier said than done given Dundee’s highly impressive form of late. They defeated Hamilton 6-1 at the weekend and the Accies defence were tormented by the Dark Blues’ frontline.
Queen of the South are next up for Smith’s men, before a clash with runaway First Division leaders Ross County the following weekend.
Elliot added: ”The boys are flying just now and confidence is high. We’re all really looking forward to our next game. We’re focusing on winning as many games as we can and hopefully Ross County will drop some points above us.
”You can’t expect them to keep winning every week but the most important thing is we win against Queen of the South, which gives us an opportunity to cut their lead at Dingwall the following week when we play them.”
Smith is pleased to have a fit-again Elliot at his disposal until the end of the year.
He said: ”We’re delighted to have Calum with us for another month. He’s shown us the qualities that we believed he would have. He’s got pace and a good reading of the game.
”He’s obviously still coming back from injury and the more action he gets the better he’ll be. There’s real competition fro places up front, which is great. That’s what we want here strikers who are scoring.
“The boys are really happy with our results but the dressing room spirit has always been good. We’ve got confidence in the side just now but our last result will count for nothing if we don’t win again on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, Dundee have cut admission prices for Saturday’s match to £10 for adults and children will get free entry.
Smith pointed out: ”I think the fans deserve it. They stuck by the club and kept it alive through administration. They’ve also kept coming in their numbers when things weren’t going as they had wanted at the start of the season.
”This is a wee ‘thank you’ for that. If we can get even more on the gate then that’s great as well.”
