A vision of the first council housing development to be built in Angus for 15 years has been unveiled.
Neighbourhood services convener Jim Millar said it was ”just the beginning” as the ”21st century” showhouse at Burgh School Close in Carnoustie opened on Wednesday for the public to view.
”We are delivering warm, dry and affordable 21st century homes for the people of Angus,” Mr Millar said. ”The houses are very energy efficient with a rating of A+ and use solar panels to pre-heat the hot water in the tanks.
”The houses are heated by air source heat pumps which only use one third of the energy compared to a normal electric heating system.
”At a time of rising energy prices it’s hugely important that we do everything we can to eliminate fuel poverty.
”These and future developments will make a real difference to the lives of families and individuals in Angus by increasing the number of affordable properties available for rent.”
The houses at Links Avenue are among 12 council houses which have just been completed and were on show to allow tenants to view the quality of design the council is delivering in its new-build programme.
Ten of the houses in Carnoustie are part of a larger development of the former Kinloch School site, on schedule to be completed next year.
The other two council houses are in Monifieth on the site of the old police station.
They are all part of the local authority’s programme to provide 147 new council houses. The project has received £250,000 from the Scottish Government.
Also in attendance on Wednesday were representatives of Brown Construction, the contractor which built the houses, tenant representatives and Burnside Primary School choir who sang carols at the viewing event on the site of the old Kinloch school, of which they have many fond memories.
The showhouse at 1 Burgh School Close will be open for members of the public to view from 11am-3pm each weekday until Tuesday.
