Drinks giant Diageo is considering a further expansion in Fife.
The global company, which is in the process of doubling its bottling plant in Leven, has applied for planning permission to build a warehouse near Kirkcaldy.
An application before Fife Council has requested permission for the erection of a warehouse and ancillary development, an access road and landscaping at Begg Farm, between Kirkcaldy and Cluny.
If given the go-ahead, the development could provide a jobs boost for the unemployment blackspot.
However, a spokesman for the firm stressed the proposal was still at an early stage and was just one of a number of proposals being looked at by Diageo.
”Diageo is considering a number of options for potential warehousing sites at different locations in Scotland and this is just one of the options we are considering,” he said.
”The plans in relation to this potential location are at the earliest stage and we can’t comment further until the process takes its course.
”As and when our proposals become more firm we will ensure we engage local communities fully in our plans.”
Diageo’s £86m expansion of its Banbeath packaging plant in Leven brought an estimated 400 jobs to Fife.
The firm also has substantial warehousing at Leven, as well as at sites near Alloa and Falkirk.
