Love Island has had its biggest shake-up yet with two couples splitting, several new relationships formed and one romance in serious jeopardy.
Tuesday’s dramatic episode saw Michael Griffiths and Amber Gill – who were previously among the bookies’ favourites to win the current series – split, as well as Jordan Hames and Anna Vakili.
The latest instalment saw a recoupling with the original boys and girls coming back together after several days spent with new islanders.
They each had had to decide whether to continue the series with their original partner, or forge a relationship with a newcomer.
Shockwaves rippled through the villa as Michael revealed his decision to couple up with newcomer Joanna Chimonides after being in a couple with Amber for several weeks.
Referring to Amber, Michael told the villa and host Caroline Flack: “The past few days have given me a lot of time to reflect, I’m not being true to myself, I’ve overlooked certain situations that I wouldn’t normally do, I’ve bitten my tongue when I wouldn’t normally do so.
“Meeting this girl (Joanna) has brought Michael back – she’s unbelievably stunning, she’s funny, she brings good vibes to the villa.”
Anna and the other original girls, who had been in Casa Amor with Amber, were visibly stunned at his revelation.
Amber then walked back into the villa alone, having chosen to stay coupled up with Michael.
Her reaction to being dumped by Michael will be shown in the next episode of the ITV2 show.
Earlier in the programme, Jordan chose to stay with Anna, but she had opted to couple up with newcomer Ovie Soko.
Anna – who grew close to Ovie in Casa Amor – said she was “surprised, shocked, sad” to see Jordan waiting for her, but he said he would not hold her decision against her.
Elsewhere, Curtis Pritchard chose to stick with his current partner Amy Hart, despite admitting that he feels their relationship is in jeopardy after being swayed by one of the new girls.
Earlier in the episode, the ballroom dancer had said he would prefer to couple up with new girl Jourdan Raine, who advised him to stick with Amy.
He also admitted that he had been “lying” in their relationship “without even realising it”.
Curtis told Tommy Fury that there were things “wrong” between them, and that the fact Jourdan turned his head made him rethink his romance with Amy.
Amy, however, walked back into the villa thrilled to see Curtis standing there waiting for her, unaware of his feelings.
She had previously told Molly-Mae Hague that she was considering telling Curtis she loved him.
The recoupling also saw an emotional reunion between Tommy and Molly-Mae, with Molly-Mae falling to the ground in tears upon seeing him waiting for her.
Danny Williams, who was single after his partner Arabella Chi was dumped from the villa last week, coupled up with Jourdan.
Anton Danyluk picked newcomer Belle Hassan to couple up with.
Anton, who has been unlucky in love since the series started, said he was “looking forward to exploring the missing piece” that Belle brings to his Love Island experience.
Lucie Donlan chose George Rains, after opting for him over Stevie Bradley from Casa Amor, and Maura Higgins picked newcomer Marvin Brooks to couple up with, having chosen him over Dennon Lewis.
A preview for Wednesday night’s programme showed Amber and Anna having a huge row with Michael.
Love Island continues on ITV2.
