Arbroath boss Paul Sheerin is hoping there is no dramatic return to Rangers for Nacho Novo.
The little Spanish frontman, currently with Sporting Gijon in his homeland, caused nothing but pain for Sheerin when the Gayfield gaffer was playing for St Johnstone and Novo was at Ibrox.
There have been reports linking Novo with a comeback to help cure the Light Blues’ striking problems, with Steven Naismith, Nikica Jelavic and Kyle Lafferty all sidelined through injury.
Sheerin, whose Lichties team host Rangers in the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup on Sunday, hopes that doesn’t happen for obvious reasons.
“I was looking back at the games I have played against Rangers in my career,” said Sheerin. “I noticed that Nacho scored for them against St Johnstone in my last two matches. One was a Scottish Cup semi-final when we were ahead in extra-time and the other was in a fourth-round tie the following year.
“In fact, he also scored in a lot of games I was involved in when he was playing for Raith Rovers and Dundee, never mind Rangers. So you can imagine my joy when I saw he was being linked with them this week!” joked Sheerin.
“I will need to keep checking on things to see if he signs for them before our game.”
