Former Chancellor Alistair Darling to share some Winter Words with Perthshire audience

The politician in charge of the British economy as the global economic meltdown began is one of the star attractions at the eighth Winter Words festival in Highland Perthshire.
Former Chancellor Alistair Darling will be joined by figures including mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington and historian Neil Oliver for this year’s event, to be held from January 27.
The 10-day Pitlochry Festival Theatre literary showcase brings together a wide variety of authors, wordsmiths, adventurers and broadcasters.
Mr Darling, who has written about his turbulent time as chancellor, will take part in an ”Evening With”” session on February 3.
Neil Oliver returns to Winter Words to discuss his latest book and TV series, A History of Ancient Britain, the following evening. Everest conquerer Sir Chris appears on January 28.
The line-up also includes TV presenter Simon Watt, prize-winning author Janice Galloway, Scotland’s Makar Liz Lochhead, and Professor Sue Black, alongside crime writers Alex Gray and Caro Ramsay, G.J Moffat and Craig Robertson.
