Police hunting a masked armed robber who held up a Perth supermarket at the weekend have yet to make a major breakthrough despite mounting a high-profile presence at the store.
Officers spent time at the West Mains Avenue shops on Monday evening 24 hours after a knifeman stole a three-figure sum from the Co-op.
At around 9.25pm on Sunday the man, who had covered his face with a scarf, demanded that staff place cash in a bag. He then fled from the store.
Officers questioned shoppers as they arrived at the store on Monday night to determine whether they had seen the thief, who is believed to have spent half an hour loitering outside the shop before making his move.
A police spokesman said: ”We were carrying out further inquiries and had officers in the area of the Co-op regarding the robbery that took place there on Sunday night.
”They attended at the same time as the robbery happened to speak to regular shoppers who may have information useful to the investigation.
”We would thank the public for their co-operation and response to the inquiry. We are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.”
With his face covered by a black scarf and blade in hand, the male handed an empty bag to a frightened employee and demanded it be filled with £10 and £20 notes.
A second staff member appeared and the male panicked and fled the scene, making off with a three-figure sum in the direction of Burghmuir Road and Newhouse Road. Although the staff were not harmed, they were left ”shocked and scared” when it became clear the intruder had a knife, which has yet to be recovered by investigating officers.
The thief is described as around 6ft, of medium build with tanned or sallow skin. At the time of the theft he was wearing a white hooded top, with four small hoops on each arm, underneath a pale blue T-shirt, together with black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers. He was covering his face with a black scarf.
