Raith Rovers are targeting Kenny Deuchar, while East Fife have completed the signing of Robert Sloan from their neighbours and rivals.
Raith manager John McGlynn admits he is happy with the squad at his disposal for the coming campaign although he is still hoping to bring another striker in preferably Deuchar.
The former St Johnstone player has had to give up full-time football to further his medical career and McGlynn is keeping his fingers crossed that he is assigned to a hospital in or close to Kirkcaldy.
“We have most of our squad in and we are just concentrating hard on training and working hard,” added McGlynn.
“However, I would still like to get another striker in as it is a critical position.
“There are a lot of players available but you need to be careful to bring in the right one who is going to fit into your team.
“There is nothing imminent at all but I have said if we go into the new season the way we are, then I am comfortable with that.
“There’s no doubt that somewhere down the line, we will bring in a new striker. Whether that is before the first competitive game of the season or after a few matches only time will tell, but I am not panicking about the situation.
“I spoke to Kenny Deuchar over the phone and we would be delighted to have him at the club but everything will revolve round the location of the hospital he works in.
“That will determine who he will sign for.”
East Fife, meanwhile, have completed the signing of midfielder Robert Sloan after his release from Rovers last month.Free-kick specialistThe 26-year-old, who turns 27 this month, was formerly at Hearts, St Johnstone and Alloa before a three-season spell at Stark’s Park, where he was known for being a free-kick specialist.
Sloan scored 13 goals in 92 appearances after joining Raith in June 2007, but was allowed to leave Stark’s Park after failing to hold down a first-team berth.
It is understood East Fife manager Stevie Crawford has secured Sloan’s services on a one-year deal and is keen to add to his squad still further over the coming days, particularly looking at the possibility of loan signings.
Sloan’s arrival follows the signing of former Raith striker Stevie Hislop from Arbroath and the extension of keeper Michael Brown’s stay at Bayview in recent weeks.
There is also speculation that veteran Scott Thomson might also be offered a renewed deal if he can prove his fitness.
