A Fife girl who has been battling cancer will line up alongside her brother as mascots at Tannadice on Sunday for the SPL clash between Dundee United and Celtic.
Summer Wroniecki (3) and her brother Brodie (6), of Cupar, will lead out Scottish champions Celtic and European hopefuls United, arranged through Kean’s Children’s Fund.
Summer was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in September and has undergone a series of operations plus chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She is now in remission.
Her father Chris, an electrical fitter with ScottishPower, said various football rivalries will be put aside on Sunday.
He said: ”I like Celtic and Brodie is a Celtic fan as well. But their cousin Luke Johnston has just signed for Dundee United at youth level. Brodie has a United strip now because of Luke.
”I’ve spoken to Charlie (Kean) and it looks like Brodie will wear a Celtic top for the occasion and Summer a United top. And just to complicate things, their mum Karen is a Rangers fan!”
Chris (38) and Karen (36) recently took on the 26-mile Kiltwalk challenge, from Hampden to Loch Lomond.
Family and 25 friends in kilts and Scotland football tops joined them to raise money for the Sick Kids hospital in Edinburgh.
The money is still coming in, but they have raised £30,000 so far.
Chris said: ”When you’re not in the ‘bubble’ of having a child with cancer, you don’t realise what these charities do. The charities do such an important job and it’s good that we can give something back.”
Summer and Brodie have also reached the finals of the Little Heroes Awards.
