Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn has admitted that he is not surprised Kenny Deuchar has chosen Falkirk over a host of clubsincluding his ownwho were interested in signing the striker.
Deuchar left SPL St Johnstone at the end of last season to further his medical career as a doctor and announced that he would be seeking part-time football.
McGlynn had a phone conversation with the centre-forward about moving to Stark’s Park but Deuchar has now decided to opt for Rovers’ first division rivals Falkirk.
“His decision did not come as a shock,” said McGlynn.
“As soon as Deuchar stated he wanted to take a step down from the SPL, we knew there would be a lot of competition to sign him.
“After all, who would not be interested in someone who scored 10 goals for St Johnstone last season?
“I am sure he will have a similar impact in the first division if he can sort out the balance between his football and medical careers.”
Having lost out on Deuchar, McGlynn continues to be linked with another striker, Dundee United’s Kevin Smith, a player who has been on loan at Raith on a couple of occasions.
However, the Rovers boss was keen to play down the speculation.
“Kevin has a lot of competition at Tannadice and probably has a few factors to weigh up about his future,” he added.
“But until he does so, he very much remains a United player.”
