People in Dundee can expect to see a significant police presence on Tuesday as a dress rehearsal for the arrival of the Olympic Torch Relay takes place.
What is described as a ”significant convoy” of marked police vehicles will travel the same route that the torch will take when it arrives in Dundee on June 12.
While the test will not match the grandeur of the relay event proper, the public are being told not to be concerned by the large police presence.
Chief Inspector Delyth Cunnah said: ”The Olympic Torch Relay coming to Tayside is a once-in-a-lifetime event and it is important that we are fully prepared and test our arrangements.
”While we are replicating the actual size and scale of the relay, we will be simulating the speed limits that it will travel at along the route that the torch will take.
”This is likely to lead to some traffic delays but we would ask drivers and the wider public for their understanding and support as our ultimate aim is to ensure that this prestigious event runs smoothly on the day.”
The test is expected to take place mid to late morning and drivers are being warned of small delays as the exercise is conducted.
Dundee will feature on what will be day 25 of the Olympic Torch Relay.
The torch will be carried through the heart of the city, including Commercial Street, High Street, Princes Street and Arbroath Road.
The flame will then reside in the city overnight with a celebration taking place in Baxter Park that evening, featuring singer Emeli Sande.
The 70-day Olympic Torch Relay began in Cornwall on Saturday and will travel the length and breadth of the UK before arriving in London for the start of the games on July 27.
