The world’s biggest ever bowl of porridge, capable of feeding 2000 people, has rightly earned its place in the book of Guinness World Records.
Weighing in at 690 kilograms, the giant pot of Scott’s Porage Oats smashed the previous record three times over.
Members of Cupar Round Table began stirring and heating 80 kilograms of oats and 570 litres of water hosed in by firefighters at 5am on Sunday.
At around 2pm the specially-made steel bowl 1.5 metres high and wide was raised on to a set of scales and an adjudicator from Guinness World Records confirmed their success.
The result was announced at Cupar Highland Games, where the porridge was prepared, and Round Table chairman Craig Manson said, “We’re absolutely over the moon.
“Everyone involved has worked really hard on this. Hopefully we’ve given Cupar something to be proud of.”
The Tablers teamed up with Scott’s Porage Oats for the challenge in a bid to raise the profile of the games and the Round Table itself.
Scott’s Porage Oats’ marketing director Hayley Stringfellow said, “We are thrilled to have set a new Guinness World Record.
“Cupar is the home of Scott’s Porage Oats so it’s only fitting that the record for the biggest bowl of porridge should be held here.” Editor in chief of Guinness World Records and official adjudicator Craig Glenday said, “Scott’s Porage Oats and Cupar Round Table have broken the existing world record by over three times. The chances of this record being broken soon is unlikely.”
