‘It’s so irritating’ residents claim ‘rude’ postman leaves them to deliver the mail

Residents in Dundee’s Foggyley area have blasted a ”rude” postman who ignored a request to take back mail he had wrongly delivered.

Royal Mail say they are to investigate the postie’s alleged actions after the residents complained of a catalogue of incidents involving their mail being put through the wrong doors.

Neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac Foggyley Place, many of them elderly, say they are constantly having to go round the doors handing over mail to the proper recipients.

Heavily-pregnant resident Dianne Reid claims a postman even gave her a rude reply when she told him the letter he had just put through her door was not for her.

Dianne said: ”Our postie put a letter through our door for a Mr Bourland, who has never lived at our address. We even get mail for the neighbours in the next close to us too. Even our elderly neighbours are either getting the next close’s mail or mail for whoever in our close.

”It is not right that we have to go around each others’ doors to swap mail. It’s just lucky that our street is a nice quiet area that we kind of all know each other.

”My husband has been waiting for his bank card for the past week and the bank states that it was sent out last Tuesday and we should have received it. His PIN has also been sent out too.

”But the response we got this morning when we told the postie about the mail we got that wasn’t ours, he said ‘So’, and walked away.

”I’m heavily pregnant and getting up the stairs is a big problem of mine and I’m getting fed up of having to go to people’s door with their letters, or pick up our mail. It’s so irritating.

”This problem has been going on since new year. Even when we leave mail at the front door to be picked up by the postie, as it’s not for this address, it never gets picked up.”

Royal Mail spokeswoman Felicity MacFarlane said: ”Royal Mail apologises for any inconvenience caused to our customers and we will fully investigate this matter. Every letter is important to us and we value the quality of service to our customers.

”For any items delivered to customers who are not known at the address, Royal Mail asks that these items are marked ‘not known at this address’ and re-entered into the postal system via your nearest post box.”

She said anyone with questions should contact the customer services team on 08457 740740.
