Dundee Rep Theatre this week named Jemima Levick and Philip Howard as its new joint artistic directors.
At a meeting of the theatre’s staff on Tuesday, Mr Howard was also named as the company’s new chief executive.
Peter Inglis, chairman of Dundee Rep Theatre Ltd, said: ”I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Philip Howard and Jemima Levick.
”After a competitive and vigorous search process by the board of Dundee Rep Theatre Ltd and external advisors, we are confident that this new artistic pairing will bring a fresh, exciting and ambitious approach to complement, develop and maintain the already groundbreaking work of the theatre.”
Ms Levick has been associate director at the Rep since 2009, over which period she has directed more than 10 productions.
Her first production at the Rep, Elephant Man, won her the 2009 CATS Award for best director as well as the best actor for Kevin Lennon and best design for Alex Lowde and Colin Grenfell.
Mr Howard was associate director at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh from 1993-96 and artistic director there from 1996-2007.
They said they were “absolutely delighted” with their appointments.
A joint statement said: ”Under James Brining’s leadership the Rep has achieved remarkable success, and it’s a privilege to build on the legacy he has left behind.
”The Rep board has made a bold choice, demonstrating a belief in an artistic pluralism that will enable us to deliver a diverse programme of work for this extraordinary organisation.
”We share a vision for world class theatre, both in performance and participatory activities, and look forward to delivering these to both local and international audiences.
”Dundee is a city that is undergoing great change and so to be embedded in and invested in a place with so much potential and at a time of growth and expansion is really exciting.
”We will ensure that the Rep remains a jewel in the cultural landscape of the city.”
