A dad of 16 has appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court charged with murdering 29-year-old dad-of-three Jimmy Getty.

Mr Getty died in hospital on Friday night after a disturbance outside the Maltman public house on Mains Road.

Jamie Cumming (35), of Morgan Street, made no plea or declaration when he appeared before Sheriff Tom Hughes on Monday on a petition alleging murder.

The charge states he assaulted Mr Getty by repeatedly striking him on the body with a knife or similar instrument at the junction of Mains Road and Mid Road, Dundee, on June 1.

His solicitor Andrew Lyall made no motion for bail and Cumming was remanded in custody while the case was continued for further examination.

He is expected to appear again at the sheriff court in seven days’ time.

Cumming hit the headlines last year when he was revealed to have had 16 children with 14 different mums, although he denied having that many children in an interview with The Courier.

Mr Getty’s heartbroken fiance paid tribute to her ”soulmate” by leaving flowers at the spot where he was fatally injured.

”My darling, my soulmate, I will always love you,” said Lynne’s note. ”Miss you so much. Me and the kids will always think about you every day forever. Yours completely, your Lynne xxxxxx.”

It was one of a number of tributes that have been laid down on Mains Road.

A close relative, who asked not to be named, laid flowers at the scene and said: ”He was a decent guy and is going to be sadly missed. Jimmy did not deserve this.”

A police presence remained outside the Maltman public house. An incident van command unit and unmarked car with a uniformed officer were stationed at the premises.

Mr Getty lived in the Hilltown area of the city with Lynne, their daughter and her son from a previous relationship. He had two other children with a previous partner.

He sustained serious injuries on Friday night outside the Maltman.

Paramedics rushed to the scene at around 11pm, before transferring him to Ninewells Hospital, where he later died.
