Callous crooks have stolen cash raised for charity at the Plough Inn in Forfar.
The theft took place between the pub closing after a manic day on the Saturday of the town’s first Forfar Fest at 1.30am and reopening on the Sunday morning around 10am.
The incident has taken the gloss off of the otherwise successful event and has left pub owner and festival organiser, Ian Whyte, disgusted.
Ian said: ”We were incredibly lucky in that they didn’t manage to get into any other secure stores but I don’t have many thoughts that you could print for something like this.”
Keys for the premises were also stolen along with the approximate £150 sum that had been raised for the Angus Threeway charity through sponsorship for the Marafun.
Despite the theft, Ian was still upbeat from the success of Forfar Fest, which saw 50 bands play in venues across the town.
He added: ”I was very impressed. The feedback all day on Saturday was that everyone had a brilliant day. You could go into any premises and get music and a good atmosphere.”
Police confirmed the incident is under investigation and appealed for witnesses to contact them on 0300 111 2222.
