Emergency services were called to the Windsor Bar on Albert Street after the fire broke out in the pub’s basement at about 11.30am on Wednesday. Smoke was seen pouring from the front and back doors of the bar. Three fire engines from Kingsway and Blackness stations were called and roads in the immediate area were closed, with diversions put in place. Tayside Fire and Rescue station manager Fraser Scott said the blaze would have been more serious had it not been for the swift action of firefighters. ”It was a really good stop by the firefighters, due to the nature and location of the fire,” he said. ”They did a good job to put it out and prevent it from spreading further, as the fact it was in the basement made it a lot harder to get into.” No customers were in the pub when the fire broke out and the two members of staff who were inside escaped unhurt. Firefighters also cleared flats upstairs as a precaution.
