An investigation has been launched into allegations a woman poisoned two of her colleagues at a Fife power station in revenge for stealing her milk.
Police were drafted in to Longannet Power Station after two male workers fell ill and had to be rushed to hospital.
The woman being quizzed by Fife Constabulary is suspected to have laced milk with industrial cleaner, which the men then drank in their tea.
The two security workers complained they were feeling unwell on Monday afternoon and were taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital 10 miles away in Larbert, near Falkirk, at 4pm.
However, they were released later that day and were back on duty fit and well the following morning.
A source said: ”The guys were always using her milk when theirs ran out. Sometimes they finished it, meaning she couldn’t have a cuppa.
”Eventually she just lost it and decided to get them back. But she didn’t realise they would end up in hospital or that the police would get involved.”
It is understood the men fell ill a couple of hours after drinking the milk.
They thought it tasted odd, but continued to drink it and only suspected it had been tampered with when they smelled it.
The men and woman are employees of Securitas, which is contracted by Longannet operator ScottishPower.
A spokesman for the security firm said: ”The two officers were not very well on Monday and were taken to hospital.
”They were checked over and were well enough to be discharged. They were back at work on Tuesday.
”We are carrying out an internal investigation and police are also investigating. We hope to have an update soon from police on the outcome and until that happens, it wouldn’t be appropriate to say any more.”
ScottishPower declined to comment as those involved are not its employees.
A Fife Constabulary spokesman said: ”Police are investigating an isolated incident at Longannet Power Station. There are no concerns for the public or any members of staff at this time.”
The coal-fired Kincardine station is the biggest generator in Scotland, providing enough power for two million homes.
