Tragic Euan Wright died taking pictures of a bird hide he designed for the RSPB Scotland, it has emerged.
The Dundee architect and musician slipped while photographing the observation shelter built for nature lovers at the Fowlsheugh nature reserve clifftop, near Stonehaven, on Saturday.
His body was found on Tuesday afternoon and members of his family in Perth formally identified him on Wednesday.
Euan’s older brother Neil gave a brief statement on behalf of his parents David and Mary and other brother Alan.
He said: “In a tragic accident, Euan fell to his death while taking photographs at Fowlsheugh nature reserve at Stonehaven on Saturday.
“Euan’s friends and family are devastated by the tragic death. A service will be announced at a later date.”
Euan had worked as an architectural assistant with Perth land management firm Bell Ingram. He was part of the firm’s design team which created the Fowlsheugh shelter last year in memory of regular reserve users George Wood Anderson and his wife Moyra.
With views over stunning Dunnotar Castle further along the east coast cliffs, it has become a magnet for nature lovers and bird watchers.
Bell Ingram managing director Graham Lumby said: “Everyone at Bell Ingram is shocked and saddened at the news of Euan Wright’s tragic accident. Euan was a well-liked and valuable member of the team and will be sorely missed.
“Euan was a tremendously talented designer who had so much potential still to fulfil. His commitment to design and architecture was exemplified by his work for the RSPB.
“This was an interest he shared in both his personal and professional life. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
The three-day search for Euan was sparked after he failed to return to his home in Dundee’s West End on Saturday.
His car was found near the reserve and police scoured the surrounding hillsides and waterways. They were joined by a search helicopter before his body was discovered.
Euan was a member of Dundee band Grace Emilys and played in the Saturday Morning Football League for DK Raiders.
The Dundee league announced the team’s game scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled, while a minute’s silence will be held before others.
League secretary Steven McSwiggan said: “Euan was a well-known and well-liked player for DK Raiders. He was a quiet lad who played for them and scored a few goals over the years.
“I’d like to express condolences to his family and friends.”
