The strength of Tayside’s gaming industry has been emphasised with two Dundee developers lining up in the final three for the Bafta Scotland 2012 Game award.
Dundee-based Cobra Mobile and Dynamo Games will go head to head as nominees against Edinburgh firm Lucky Frame to lay claim to the award, which will be presented at a ceremony in Glasgow on November 18.
The British Academy Scotland rewards and recognises the highest achievements in Scottish film, television and video games, and the awards are widely seen as the gold standard of excellence in the arts.
Although both firms said they are ”proud” and ”honoured” to have been nominated, they are no strangers to the Scottish Baftas, having each been nominated on three previous occasions.
Former Scottish Bafta winner Dynamo takes its slot on the 2012 award line-up for sporting arcade game Golf Squared, while Cobra has been nominated for its highly successful game iBomber Defense Pacific.
”It’s great news for the Dundee gaming industry to have two companies shortlisted for the award,” said studio director Stuart Reid.
”We’re hugely proud to have been nominated for the third time. It is quite an achievement for our business.
”The Bafta Scotland awards have had a very positive effect on the company. They are seen as a statement of quality within the industry and hold a great level of prestige.”
