Dundee-born Scottish international footballer Derek Johnstone is recovering after suffering a suspected heart attack.
The former Rangers and Chelsea player, who is 57, was taken by ambulance to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley on Wednesday morning after falling ill.
Fellow Dundonian and former broadcasting colleague Dick Donnelly said he hoped the popular Johnstone would make a full recovery soon.
“I haven’t spoken to Derek for a while, so I was shocked to hear the news. I’ve spoken to a few friends and they’re telling me he is okay-I certainly hope so.
“He first came to my attention when he was banging in the goals for the Dundee Primary School Select and I was doing reports on him for the old People’s Journal.
“Most people now will know him for his TV and radio work, but he goes down in my book as one of the best players ever produced by the city of Dundee.
“And he’s never forgotten where he’s from. He’s a proud Dundonian and never fails to mention that when you speak to him.”
Versatile Johnstone slotted into attack, midfield and defence for both club and country through the 1970s and early 80s.
In 546 appearances for Rangers he scored 210 goals, including the winner in the 1970 League Cup final against Celtic when he was just 16.
He made his debut for Scotland in 1973, and was part of the World Cup squad in Argentina in 1978.
