A 45-year-old man accused of murdering his wife at their home in Longforgan is to be sent to the state hospital in Carstairs as soon as he recovers sufficiently from his injuries.
Neil Cumming, of Mary Findlay Drive, Longforgan, appeared in private from his bed in Ninewells Hospital on Wednesday on a petition alleging the murder of his wife, Jane Cumming, at their home on July 15, and a second charge of dangerous driving on the A90 near Riverside Drive on the same date.
He made no plea or declaration, was remanded in custody and a treatment order was made by the court.
It’s expected he will be transferred to Carstairs as soon as he is fit to travel there.
Mr Cumming had been arrested last week by Tayside Police as part of the investigation into the murder of his wife Jane (40) last month.
Due to his severe injuries Mr Cumming had been heavily sedated since the incident and police had remained at his bedside until he was conscious and able to be interviewed.
However, he was still too badly injured to be moved so the decision was made by the Crown Office to convene the private court appearances, the first of which was last week, at his bedside.
