A Dundee man who spent decades teaching thousands of residents how to drive has died at the age of 84.
Ronald Jackson ran Jackson School of Motoring for 56 years.
Before entering the family business, he was a staff driver during the Second World War, leaving the military in 1948.
The next year he married his wife Flo, and the couple had one daughter, Pamela.
Early into his motoring school career Mr Jackson and his father experienced a bizarre situation that apparently inspired a storyline in The Broons.
The men were enjoying a break in a cafe in the City Square waiting for their next appointments. But when they stepped out on to the street they were shocked to find one of the vehicles had vanished.
Police arrived at the scene and told Mr Jackson Sr that they had seen his car in the Nethergate.
It emerged that the car had been taken by the two pupils the men were waiting for. One of the pupils was sitting in the unlocked car waiting for the instructor. However, the second pupil entered the same vehicle, believing the person behind the steering wheel was the instructor. The pair got as far as Commercial Street before their mix-up was discovered.
In his later years Mr Jackson retired to Kirkmichael near Pitlochry and remained there until his death.
He is survived by his daughter and grandchildren.
