Dr Peter Mitchell, who worked in Dundee hospitals over four decades, has died.
Dr Mitchell came to work in Dundee in 1965, taking up the post of consultant in clinical chemistry at Maryfield Hospital.
With colleague Dr Griffiths he set about modernising and rationalising the Dundee biochemical medicine service, forming a unified department from the previous three.
He moved to Ninewells in 1973 as head of the biochemical medicine department and at around that time an interest in hypnotherapy developed.
Dr Mitchell went to Glasgow where he met Dr George Reid, president of the Medical and Dental Hypnosis Society, and underwent the basic, intermediate and advanced training courses.
He started work at the pain clinic in the late 1970s.
Dr Mitchell retired as head of the biochemical medicine department at Ninewells in 1992.
He and wife Doreen met while at separate conferences in York and they married in 1991.
Dr Mitchell lived in Blairgowrie.
His funeral will take place at Dundee Crematorium on Tuesday, June 29.
