A violent thug who told a court he could not carry out community service because he suffered from athlete’s foot has been jailed for five months.
Mark Drummond earned a second chance to carry out the court order last summer after claiming he could not wear protective shoes because of the condition.
But he returned to Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday and admitted breaching the community service order for a second time because he ”lacked motivation”.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told Drummond: ”If community-based disposals are to have any credibility at all then they must be performed.”
The court was told Drummond had been ordered to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work, but said his foot complaint meant he could not wear the protective boots required.
The 25-year-old who has three assault convictions admitted breaching the community service order when he appeared at the court last summer.
Drummond, of Strathmore Avenue, Coupar Angus, had to complete unpaid work when he was convicted of breaching the peace at Tor View, Contin, on June 4 2010.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher had told him: ”Do you understand the order is a direct alternative to a custodial sentence? Failure to carry out the order in these circumstances is absolute folly.”
He told Drummond that he would not get another chance and warned him that he would be jailed if he failed.
Back in court on Wednesday, Sheriff Foulis told Drummond that was indeed the case.
