A man who stole £500 worth of metal from a garden centre in Perth has been ordered to carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work in the community.
David Doig (20), of Scott Street, Perth, admitted that on November 15 last year at the storage area of Dobbies Garden Centre, Crieff Road, Perth, he stole a quantity of aluminium.
Depute fiscal Nicola Manison said the metal was valued at £500 and all of it was recovered.
”The metal was stored in an outdoor storage yard at the rear of the main building of Dobbies,” she said. ”At around 11.40am, employees noticed a transit van and saw the accused with a saw cutting up the metal. The employees contacted the police and store manager.
”The man was asked to hand over the metal but he drove off in the van. Police had a description of the van and the accused was later traced and the stolen metal was recovered.”
Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said Doig had intended selling the metal for scrap as he was short of money. Doig was ordered to carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work as part of a community payback order.
