A youth who assaulted a man with a bottle in Anstruther has been tagged for four months.
Kevin Haldane (17), of Mayview Avenue, admitted repeatedly punching Andrew Penman on the head and striking him on the head with a bottle to his injury at Shore Road on December 28.
The court heard Haldane had been provoked.
Depute fiscal Ann Orr told the court the pair had been involved in a ”bit of pushing and shoving” before parting ways earlier in the evening.
She said: ”However, their paths appear to have crossed again a short time later. Mr Penman appears at that point to have instigated a further altercation.”
Haldane, who was seen to repeatedly punch his victim, produced a bottle and struck Mr Penman, leaving him with a cut above his eye.
Sheriff Charles Macnair sentenced the accused to a four-month restriction of liberty order.
He said: ”If you had not used a weapon, I might well have been prepared to deal with you by way of a fine.
”The use of weapons of that sort is extremely dangerous and it is fortunate that Mr Penman was not more seriously injured.”
