Jail for Bridge of Earn man who attacked own house with rocks

A Bridge of Earn man has been jailed after admitting he smashed up his own house after spending the day drinking.

Perth Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that Donald Sutherland got involved in a disagreement with his partner, resulting in her locking him out of the home they share at Kintillo Place when he stormed out.

At around 11.30pm, the 54-year-old was seen standing in the front garden throwing stones at the front window and door. A large rock hit the front door, causing a glass panel to smash, allowing Sutherland to reach in and unlock the door.

Police were contacted and when they arrived at the scene, they found a lump of masonry in the living room. The cost of the damage was estimated at £300.

Defence agent Mike Tavendale told the court the couple were involved in a relationship that was ”equally abusive and supportive” and his client had a ”long-term” drink problem.

Sutherland, of Kintillo Place, admitted that on March 30, at his home address, he wilfully and recklessly destroyed or damaged property belonging to another by smashing a front door window and living room window.

Jailing him for five months, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told the accused: ”You have far too much alcohol and become argumentative and abusive and certainly, on occasion, disorderly with the potential to become violent.”
