Tributes have been paid to a retired Perthshire teacher who has died following a long illness.
Anne Duthie, who was 65 and from Alyth, was described as a popular member of the community who worked hard for the local primary school. She dedicated almost 30 years to teaching in the village.
Born in 1947 near Sutherland, Mrs Duthie spent the first year of her life living on the Skibo Estate, where her father was a gamekeeper.
The family moved to Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate shortly afterwards and she spent most of her young life there.
She attended primary school at Ballater, the secondary school in Aboyne and teacher training college in Aberdeen.
In 1968, Mrs Duthie took on her first teaching job at St John’s RC Primary in Perth and also spent a year working in Thornton.
While living in Perth, she met future husband Stuart at a weekly dance in the Salutation Hotel. They married in 1971 at Craigie Church in Perth and a year later moved to Liff.
Mrs Duthie spent six years teaching there before deciding to take on a role at Alyth Primary in 1978. The couple settled in the village.
Mr Duthie said: ”She was so popular at the school and was a big part of the community in Alyth. Anne did an awful lot for the school and was always fundraising.
“She was well-known within teaching circles and will be missed by a lot of people. She was a much-loved aunt and a friend to many.”
Mrs Duthie’s funeral is at Perth Crematorium on Tuesday, August 14, at 10.30am, to which all relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
